Greece, October 2024

Our bible group with Chris & Liz Hrbecek and Paul & Linda Kent had been pushing Monsignor Reed to do a trip to Greece to follow the footsteps of Paul. The day finally came, and we joined our group of Pilgrims at Pensacola Regional Airport on Tuesday, 10/15/24.  On Delta, we first flew to Atlanta, then boarded the overnight flight to Athens..

Wednesday, 10/19/24: Arrival in Athens

 

Not much happened after arrival at the Windham Grand Hotel in Athens.  We found the bar on the roof, which gave us a great view of the Acropolis.

 

Thursday 10/17/24: Athens City

 

In the morning, we were given a tour of the city of Athens. We explored the Acropolis seeing the Parthenon. We visited the Agora, where Paul addressed the Athenians (Acts 17:16-34), During the afternoon, we explored the shops in the old city. That evening, we had dinner and a show in the Planka area.

Friday 10/18/24: Myconos

At the port of Piraeus, we boarded the Celestyal Discovery cruise ship. We sailed to Myconos, were we walked to the famed windmills. After dinner, we saw the show in the auditorium..

 

Saturday 10/19/24: Ephesus & Patmos

We docked at Kusadasi, then went to the House of the Virgin Mary. Next, we walked thought the archeological of the city of Ephesus. We then were taken to a place that sold silk rugs. We bought one. After lunch, we sailed to Patmos.where John was imprisoned.

 

Sunday 10/20/24: Crete & Santorini 

During the morning, we were given a tour of the Knossos Palace, We found a church in town that held the skull of Titus. We then sailed to Santorini, which we explored on our own

 

Monday 10/21/24: Delphi

We disembarked from the cruise ship and drove to Delphi.  A further drive took us to Thermopylae, where the 300 fought.  We stayed a the Amalia Hotel in Kalambaka.

 

Tuesday 10/22/23: Meteora & Veria

We visited a monastery in Meteora, then to a place were Paul had preached in Berea. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Palace in Thessaloniki for 2 nights
 

Saturday 10/23/24: Philippi

In the morning, we went to Philippi, saw the river where Lydia was baptized, and visited the archeological site..

 

Thursday 10/24/24: Thessaloniki City

We visited the Hagia Sophia, an 8th century chuch, and Aristotelous Square.  Back in Athens, we stayed at the Wyndham Grand Hotel
 

Friday, 10/25/24: Corinth

After a tour of the archeological site, we saw the canal which connects the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf.  That evening, we had a wonderful dinner at the Mironi Greek Restaurant.

 

On Saturday 10/26, we took the Delta flight from Athens to Atlanta, and then to Pensacola.
